Sewing Plans for Spring: Part 1

jcrew1jcrew2jcrew4These are new for spring(girls) over at jcrew.  Love.  The happy thing is that even though they are way too expensive for my wallet, I am using them for inspiration to create on my own.  I am toying with the idea of doing a tutorial of sorts on the subject of clothes alteration because it is so much fun and so easy to do.  I wish that the boys clothes were as exciting, but gosh does it get boring after your boy turns about 4 or 5.  Tee shirts with graphic stuff on them, jeans, cargo pants, polos…oh the excitement.  The good thing is that Tobey is actually into some cool clothes that Shaun White designs for Target.  At least there are some other colors besides the usual boy lot.

Made Lately

mushroomI just made this mushroom from a coffee can and felt.  I like the way it turned out, but i definitely need to try it again and perfect it a bit.

avas_bday 049Ava’s birthday crown.  This was probably the first thing I have made her that she was just thrilled to wear.

Very cool short comic

hisfaceallredMy sister showed this to me.  Emily Carroll, wow.  She is very talented…almost makes me want to stop making art!  Anyway, check it out because it is a very cool, very creepy, very short comic…if you dig that sort of thing.

A girl can dream, right?

spring_wardrobe

I was just doing a little dreaming last night of what some nice additions to my my spring wardrobe would be.  I LOVE spring clothes.  I am so glad floral and flowy is in this season, as well as the whole nautical look.  Lace is a big trend as well as neon, but I did enough neon wearing in the 90’s to last a lifetime.   I will have to try and alter some of my pre-existing clothes to update them a bit-more on that later!

making and making

I absolutely love to sew.  I love it!  I just wanted to share some projects that have been missing from my blog for some time.  Since I tend to focus more on the drawing/illustration part of me sometimes I forget just how much I really enjoy working with fabric.  Making hand made gifts is so rewarding because it feels so much more personal than the standard store bought item.  fall_2010 087

IF: Star Gazing

stargazer2

stargazer1Here are some other sketches I did after the IF: Double post…just to continue the story.  Star gazing just seemed to fit with the glowing orb the little girl gets from the other-worldly twins.

IF: Caged

caged copy

Not excited about my obvious choice of  topic for “caged” but no matter what I sketched I kept coming back to birds and old ladies…they just tickle me.  Didn’t quite finish the seeds in her left hand-oops!

IF:Double

Not sure how I feel about this piece…maybe the girls are too close to be so small or something?  Comments welcome : )  I just thought double trouble and what came to mind were these two creepy-twin-eyeless-girls.  Why a young girl would be walking through the woods at night with a book I don’t know…but she is feeling a little threatened and rightly so!double copy

Alice Art Show

I thought I’d post these long overdue photos of the Alice in Wonderland Show (Koken Art factory) .  The first show I felt like I had something to submit to!  It was a nice experience to see my work displayed although I must say it was not a show stopper with the likes of painted women walking around and large scale oil paintings of the mad hatter.  Still nice.summer2010 078

This couple of pals came about while sketching last week and I just had to see them in color.  I am thinking about doing a series of the two doing different things together…climbing trees, listening to records(yes, records) and eating ice cream.  He looks funny and kind, like you’d want an imaginary friend to be.

I didn’t have one.  I did however believe fully and completely that there was an entire magical world beyond Texas, thanks to Labrynth and Legend(tell me some of you have seen this)and other creepy eighties movies.  I had a unicorn club with two other friends(it was exclusive)who also believed that unicorns existed(we were cool).  My parents perpetuated this in the worst way-feeding into all these beliefs and in some cases actually creating evidence which led me to believe that I was experiencing the magic.    imaginary_friend
